Ember Crown Saga
Ember Crown Saga leans into its story more than I expected. You lead a small band across a crumbling kingdom, and the writing has actual character to it, with choices that occasionally shift how party members treat you. The turn-based combat is clean, built around elemental weaknesses and positioning on a small grid.
What kept me playing was party building. Each companion has a distinct role, and the skill trees let you specialize in ways that genuinely change fights. I turned my healer into a debuff machine and suddenly boss battles clicked. The difficulty ramps fairly, so grinding never felt mandatory.
The touch interface is the weak spot. Selecting the exact grid tile you want can be fiddly in the heat of battle. Everything else, though, punches above its weight for a mobile RPG.
